Robert was born in 1815 in Winchester. He was the son of Leonard Leigh. He was christened 15 Nov 1815, and again 26 Aug 1819 along with his brother Percival (see notes).
Research Notes
Two christenings
It wasn't very uncommon for a family to have two or even more children christened at once; sometimes this was because they were twins, but sometimes it was because they hadn't gotten around to having the older child christened yet, or couldn't remember if it had been done or not. Given that Robert is listed in the 1841 census as older than Frederick, who was christened in 1818, the alternative explanation - that there were two Roberts and the older one died at a young age - seems very unlikely.
