Biography

Samuel Leighton lived at Gouldsboro, Narraguagus and Pembroke, Maine, and then was the first European settler, c1780, at Pleasant Point (Township No. 9 ED NBPP), [should be Incorporated 1818 from Plantation No. 1 PS] incorporated as Perry in 1818. [1] [2] [3] He was baptized at Newington, New Hampshire, 18 Oct 1756, the son of Hatevil Leighton and Sarah Trickey; [3] [4] died at Perry, 3 Dec 1831; [5] married, c1778, Elizabeth Frost, born 9 Oct 1757, daughter of William Frost; died at Perry, 4 Oct 1843. [3] [4]

On 6 June 1788, Samuel of Cobscook Bay sold to John Crane his rights (4 days and a half, or 1/6 and 1/48) in a sawmill "known as Old Cobscook tide mills" on the Cobscook River, and lot #9 of 100 acres bounded by the tidemill and pond (Washington Co. Deeds 1:137). (The name Cobscook was then applied to all the land bordering the Bay.) He sold 100 acres at No. 9 to John Crane, 5 Dec. 1792 (Washington Co. Deeds 1:331). [4]
