Biography

William was the second in a sequence of four men named William Leighton, however both the Visitation of Shropshire and Stemmata Botevilliana show only three. In the discussion of Plaish in Baggs, all four are identified.

His parents were Sir William Leighton and Margery Sprenchose (or Sprencheaux), the daughter and co-heir of Sir Fulk, who brought Plaish to the Leightons.

William married Dorothy Lacon, the daughter of Sir Thomas Lacon, and they had three known children - William, Jane and Margery. When William died in 1533 his son was still a minor and Dorothy held Plaish. The Inquisition Post Mortem for William survives[1] but does not appear to have been published.

William and Dorothy were married before 1520. [2]
