Mary was born in 1830 in Renfrewshire, Scotland (her tombstone says, Glasgow). Her New South Wales Death Index entry indicates her father's name was Lapier (which is also the second name of her grandson, William, son of Alfred), and that her mother's name was Elizabeth. She likely arrived in New South Wales on the ship Waverly on December 20, 1848 at the age of 17, with her mother Elizabeth (age 34), and a younger sister Janet (age 15). The passenger list records indicate that Elizabeth was a widow on embarkation. Mary married Robert Langley in 1853. She passed away in 1917.
