Biography

Elizabeth was born circa 1781 to Robert Lishman & Grace Thom at Newlands Peeblesshire.

Marriage: at Canongate Edinburgh, Robert Scot Carter & Betty Lishman Daughter of Robert Lishman Labourer Lasswade Gave up their Names for Marriage. 17 Apr 1805.[1]

1841 Census: Elizabeth was living at New Bigging, Lasswade with Robert working as an ag labourer. Jean Scott, 15, living with them may be Jean born 1822 and Elizabeth Scott, 10, may be the last child born circa 1828[2].

1851 Census: Elizabeth & Robert were living at Newbiggin with Robert employed as an ag lab.[3]

1861 Census: Elizabeth described herself as Ploughmans Widow and was still living at Newbigging with her daughter Jane/Jean Scott.[4]

Elizabeth died at High St, East Dalkeith, 9 Nov 1862 from senile decay. She was recorded as widow of Robert Scott, general labourer. Her parents were given as Robert Leishman and Grace Thom. Informant was James Scott, son, occupier.[5]
