Biography

Noel was born in 1897. He was the son of John Lemass and Frances Phelan. He was an engineer for the Dublin Corporation.

With his brother Seán he was a member of the 3rd Battalion, Dublin Brigade IRA and fought in the General Post Office (GPO) during the Easter Rising of 1916, took an active part in the War of Independence (1919-1921) and joined the occupation of the Four Courts after taking the anti-Treaty side in the Civil War.

After being imprisoned after the fall of the Four Courts, escaping and spending time in England, he returned to Dublin after the ceasefire was declared. In July 1923 he was kidnapped by Free State agents. His body was found on the Featherbed Mountain in October.
