DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Jean by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Jean:

Was nine-year-old Jean Lemaistre, le Picard one of the coureurs de bois "Jean Mayseré" present at the "Pageant of the Sault" Saint Marie in 1671 trying to support his family after his father Francois died in 1666? Louis Jolliet was at the pageant also, and Jean's father François had been present at Adrien Jolliet's marriage, showing a tie to the Jolliet family. François Daumont de Saint Lusson, four Jesuit priests from missions in the area, Louis Jolliet, and translator Nicolas Perrot at Sault Ste. Marie claimed the great lakes and tributaries for France on June 14, 1671. Intendant of New France Jean Talon had sent out the expedition. La Potherie's notes are mentioned in Pierre Margry, Découvertes et Établissements des François dans l’ Amérique Septentrionale, volume I, pp. 96-99.

Also, the "Sieur Le Maistre" continued on as a coureur de bois with Daniel Greysolon Duluth (Dulhut) at Lake Nipigon and Lake Superior in September, 1679 when Jean would have been 18 years old.

Sincerely, Mark L. Madsen
