Biography

Rose Lenover was Chicago area nightclub owner and manager before retiring to Las Vegas with her second husband and later California where she passed away.

Rosella was born on December 11, 1926. She was the daughter of Heny Alexander Lenover and Hazel Faye Carroll.

Marriages

Rosella first married to Earl Bland in Schuyler County , Illinois. They were soon divorced according to her obituary.[1] The dates of her marriage have not been determined but she was mentioned in a 1950 obituary for her brother Henry Lenover, under the name Rosella Bland, living in Pana. No spouses were mentioned in the obituary.[2] She was divorced by 1956.[3]

She married her second husband was Emil "Moe" Monaco of Chicago. They were married in Las Vegas.[4] He predeceased her in 1994.[1]

Shooting by Ex-Boyfriend

In May 1956, Miss Rosella Bland Lenover was shot by former boyfriend, Harry Marnen, after breaking things off with the married Marnen. She was shot four times, three times in the head, but survived. Marnen also fired one shot into his torso in an apparent suicide attempt. In the Chicago Tribune newspaper article, her first husband is not named but is described as deceased. It would appear this is incorrect.[3]

Career

In 1956 was a waitress in Chicago.[3]

During the late 1950s and 1960s, Rose met her future husband Moe Monaco. They dated and worked together.

In 1960 and 1961, Rose ran the Why Not? Club.[5][6]

In the early 1960's, Moe bought the Blue Dahlia club. Business started off poorly, so Moe decided to start bringing female impersonators as entertainment. Don Herion, Chicago vice cop and noted mob buster recounts many colorful stories about Moe and Rosie, as her called her, in his book Pay, Quit, or Die: Chicago Mob Ultimatum. [7]

Later Life

Rose and Moe later retired to Las Vegas where Moe passed away.

Rose Monaco passed away on 20 December 2015 in Canoga Park, California. As mentioned in her obituary, her ashes were buried with her cats and dogs at the Craig Road Pet Cemetery in Las Vegas, Nevada.[1] Her cremation was handled by Gates, Kingsley & Gates Praiswater Mortuary.[8]
