William likely died in Germany. His oldest son, Adolph, escaped religious persecution in Germany bringing his mother and younger brother to the United States.[1]
According to the 1910 census[2] for son Antonio, Antonio arrived in New York from Germany about 1871. An immigration record for Anton Lentz exists for 24 May 1872, who was born about 1845 and from Germany.[3]
It is possible that William arrived earlier on his own, as there is a William Lentz who was naturalized in Ottawa, Illinois and Bureau County, Illinois in 1855.[4]
If the mother of Antonio Lentz is correctly identified as Lisette Lentz who lived in Chicago during 1880, then William must have died before 1880, as Lisette was then a widow.
The matter of who William Lentz was, and where he lived is still in need of a firm resolution.
