Biography

Denis Leonard was born about 1750 in Rushy Park, County Kerry. He was the only son and heir of Godfrey Leonard and Elizabeth Taylor.^[1][2]

Denis married Margaret Bell, daughter and co-heiress of Samuel Bell, Esq, of Cloghroke, otherwise known as Bellgrove, County Tipperary.^[1][2]

Denis and Margaret had seven sons and a daughter:^[1][2]

1. Godfrey Leonard of Rushy Park and Bellgrove, died unmarried 10 April 1844
2. Samuel Leonard, a student of Trinity College Dublin, killed in a duel in 1800
3. Denis Leonard of Bellgrove m Jane Parkes
4. Reverend Samuel Bell Leonard m Anne Chute
