Biography

Simeon Leonard 4 (Elkanah 3, Thomas 2, James 1)

Capt. Simeon Leonard son of Elkanah and Charity (Hodges) Leonard was born Jan 9, 1709 at Middleboro, Massachusetts. He died in Jan 30,1754 or Nov.30,1754) in Middleboro, Mass. MVR give a Simeon died on Jan 30,1754 and Dr. Backus Diary gives "died Nov. 30,1754. [1]

In 1726, Elkanah, between the age of 14 and 21 years made the choice of Mr. Ephraim Hodges of Taunton to be his guardian.[2]

Simeon Leonard married on Nov.6,1735 in Middleborough Abigail Morse daughter of Joshua and Elizabeth (Doten) Morse of Middleboro, Mass.

Simeon and Abigail (Morse) Leonard had 6 children:

  1. Zaddock Leonard b. 1736, died 1795 Oct. 27, m. 1766 June 10 Deborah Keith who died 1789 Apr. 18, They had 3 sons and 4 daughters.
  2. Micah b.1740, d. 1817 Sept. 3, , m.1766 Dec.25 Theodora Dean and had 12 children.
  3. Archeleus Leonard b.1742 Jan.2, d.1813 Mar. 6 m. 1763 July 28 Lydia Caswell (dau. of Jotham) had 5 ch.
  4. Rebecca Leonard married on 1779 Dec. 23 Stephen Robinson or Robertson.
  5. Lucy Leonard m. 1774 Dec. 29 Joel Eaton in Middleboro
  6. Diadema m. 1780 May 16 Samuel Bourne.
  7. Keziah Leonard m.1786 Oct. 19 Luke Reed.


Probate

Simeon Leonard of Middleborough died intestate and on 5 April 1762, Zadock Leonard of Middleborough was granted the administration of his estate.[3]

His inventory was taken on 15 April 1762 in Middleborough which included a share of his mother's dower from his father, Elkanah Leonard's estate. Zadock Leonard was the administrator of his estate.[4]

In 1763, his estate was set out to the widow, Abigail, and his children, Zadock Leonard (eldest son), Micah, Archelaus, Lucy, Diadame, Kezih, and Rebecca.[5]

In 1763, an account of his estate by Zadock Leonard was recorded which included administration fees, and guardianship letters.[6]
