1860 in Federal Census, Syracuse City, Ward 4, Onondaga, New York. The eighth of nine children of John A Leonard. Brothers George, James, and Edward are bookkeepers; sister Henrietta is a school teacher. ^[5]

1870 in Federal Census, Syracuse, Ward 4, Onondaga, New York. Living with father John Leonard, retired, her brother George (bank cashier) and his wife and child, brother Edward (bookkeeper), and sisters Francis (a teacher), Mary, and Henrietta. ^[6]

1875 in New York State Census, Syracuse, Ward 4, Onondaga, New York. After the death of her father in 1873, "Lottie" is still living in Syracuse, New York and is a school teacher. She is living with brother Edward (bookkeeper), sisters Fannie (also a school teacher) and Henrietta Smith (married, but husband is not listed on this page), and an Irish servant. ^[7]
