Baptized 2 October 1859 in Brighton, Sussex.

The 1861 census lists him as "Scholar of 47 Hanover Terrace, Brighton, Sussex."
The 1881 census has him as a baker and still living in Brighton. [2]
The 1891 census has him as "Hall porter at 17 Spring Street, Brighton, Sussex."
