A WWI veteran that survive the first gas attacks in the trenches of France (Argon Forest). His best friend "Truella" had his head blown off while in the same foxhole with Lon. He loved Lucky Strike unfiltered cigarettes and hated the Detroit Tigers because he lost a $20 ($20 gold eagle) bet on them in the 1920’s. He was a minor league baseball player (team mate was Roy Acuff) for several years and that gave him the life time love of watching baseball. After returning from WWI he bought a new car a wrecked within a week. The final years of his life he lived in Monroe, MI in several rental apartments on West 3rd street, Monroe, Michigan. Upon the death of his son: Robert Lester, he poured all of his alcohol down the drain and never drank again. Many stories are related by his daughter Louise Lester Baltrip.
