1880 United States Federal Census reports that Ira Stanley, age 38 was born in 1842 in North Carolina. He is residing in Marion twp of Jasper county, Missouri where he is farming. Also in the household, his wife Hannah age 34; twins Leora and Laura age 7, Roy age 6, Gurley age 4, Luella age 2 and Homer 11 months.

By the time the 1900 United States Federal Census is enumerated, Ira Stanley is now 58, still living on the farm. Ira and Hannah have now been married 29 years. She is now 53. The children in the home are Leora now 28 working as a dressmaker; Roy F. now 26, William G. [Gurley] age 24; Lula [Luella] now 22 and working as a school teacher; Homer L. now 20; Ada age 19 and working as a bookkeeper and Bessie age 16 is still in school. All the boys were working farm labor.

On the 1910 United States Federal Census, Ira now 67 and Hannah 64 have moved into town [Carthage] and he has retired from farming. They are living at 320 S. McGregor and also in the home is daughter Lula [Luella], now 32 and still teaching school and Bessie, now 24 and working as a sales lady in a dry goods store.

In 1911 Hannah's husband Ira passed away.

The 1920 United States Federal Census reports that Hannah now 73 and her 2 daughters are still residing at the house on McGregor in Carthage. Lula is now 40 and still teaching school and Bessie now 35 is still working as a saleslady.

The US Federal Census enumerated on April 10, 1930 reported Hannah as now being 83. She is still living with her two daughters Lula now 52, still teaching school and Bess, now 45 and still a saleslady. They have moved from the residence on McGregor to another one over on 515 Walnut Street in Carthage. Lula is now listed as head of house. This will be the last census Hannah will appear on. By December 20, 1930 Hannah passes away. According to her death certificate, the cause of her death was an accidental fall from the porch, causing injury to her chest and she died from her injuries. She was 84 years old. She had been a Carthage resident for 53 years. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Knell Mortuary and burial was next to her husband in Park Cemetery. The death certificate can be viewed at Missouri Digital Archives/death certificates online website.

NOTE: Daughter Ada was found on the 1940 Census as being in Norwalk State Hospital in Los Angeles County. This was a state hospital for the mentally ill. It is unknown when she died.

A wedding announcement was found published in the April 20, 1905 Carthage Evening Press newspaper. It read:
HAPPY WEDDING IN THE COUNTRY
Geo. W. Smith and Miss Ada Stanley Were Married Last Evening

The wedding of George W. Smith and Miss Ada Stanley occurred last evening at eight o'clock at the home of the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ira Stanley, three miles northwest of Carthage. Some two score of guests were present, all relatives except the members of the T.T.N. club of Carthage, of which the bride was a member.
Rev. Walter E. Brown of this city officiated, using the ring ceremony.
Many handsome presents were received by the bride and groom, including a pretty silver baking dish from the T.T.N. club. Following the ceremony a wedding supper was served.
The couple will go to housekeeping at once on the groom's farm four miles northwest of town. (bio by NJBrewer)
