Biography

Daniel Lester served in Wayne County as justice of the peace in the late 1830's and was elected justice of the county court August 22, 1838. He was shown on the 1840 census of that county as being 60-70 years old and owning six slaves. He did not live another ten years -- or the census enumerator failed to find his cabin. He was not shown on the 1850 census.

Court, tax and land records indicate that Daniel and wife arrived in Kentucky around 1800. Census records and land transactions indicate the family left the state in 1818/19 for Missouri. Daniel settled in Black River Township some three miles north of Lesterville. He was one of the early justices of the peace for this township in the 1820s.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Daniel by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Daniel:

There is no proof he was born in Virginia. It appears his father came to Virginia

Wanda, I'm a long time Lester family researcher, and I'm convinced that Daniel was indeed born in or near Pittsylvania Co., VA. Siblings born before and after his birthdate can be documented - mostly via headstone data. Now do I have primary evidence? No. But circumstantial data such as two of his brothers were born before and after his birthdate (1775) in Virginia (based on cemetery headstones that I have). His parents, Thomas and Sytha Lucas Lester, are in Pittsylvania Co before Daniel's birth. Confusion arises concerning Daniel's father Thomas, who died in 1787 (not 1788) in Pittsylvania Co. (I have no primary documentation for his birth date). The 1788 death date refers to another 'Thomas Lester', who died 20 Jan 1788 buried Starr Cemetery, Groton, Connecticut, age 63. Other members of this Lester family, including his wife, are also buried in this cemetery. Several of Thomas' children sued his estate after his death (copy on file) for their shares. Daniel was the lead sibling representing this legal action which stayed in the courts for years. Wiki Tree doesn't keep members from changing data without manager's approval, so you may find some errors, so proceed at your own risk. Your last comment that Thomas "came to Virginia" is true, but proving from where is still a brick wall for me. Based on others who traveled with Thomas to Pittsylvania, he (and wife) were probably in Fairfax Co., VA, Maryland and Pittsylvania, and if census records are correct, he and his family were in North Carolina for a period of time.
