Biography

Benjamin Leverich III was born abt 1788 in Cortlandt, Westchester, NY to Benjamin Leverich

Excerpt from History of Branch County, Michigan "In the same season (June 1837) or early in the succeeding year, Benjamin Leverich settled in the Southwest part of the town. The family consisted of father and mother and eight children. One of the daughters was Mrs. Wm. McClerg, and her husband and two children also belonged to the party. They came from Columbiana County, Ohio. Benjamin and his eldest son Thomas were prominent members of the Methodist Episcopal Church. The former was especially highly esteemed by his neighbors, and was a thorough farmer and an energenic and consistant Christian. In 1852 the entire family (with the exception of one daughter who married Daniel Marsh) removed to Oregon. While crossing the Humbolt River on their way to the Pacific coast, one son, Abishai was drowned."
