Thomas was born about 1800.

Thomas and Mary are said to be married in the marriage record of their son George at Hutton, Scotland. Thomas (deceased) is described as a salmon fisher. ^[1]

Thomas's death (age 38) was registered in the Oct-Nov-Dec quarter of 1838 in the The Berwick Upon Tweed Union district.^[2]

His death certificate states: Thomas, fisherman, aged 38, died on 1 Nov 1838. Informant was Mary Lewins, widow present at the death at New Mills, Parish of Berwick.
A memorial in Ayton churchyard, Berwickshire, Scotland, reads:
Erected by George Lewens in affectionate remembrance of Thomas Lewens d. 1.11.1839 aged 39y. Thomas his son d. on his passage from the West Indies 25.12.1852 aged 23y. Mary Faggiot his wife d. 3.1.1879 aged 78y. Margaret Darling his grand-daughter d. 26.7.1884 in her 3rd year. Elizabeth Margaret Lewens his great grand-daughter d. 6.3.1903 aged 10y. Also the above George Lewens d. 31.8.1911 aged 72y. Also Darling Jeffrey wife of the above George Lewens d. 28.11.1930 aged 88y.
