Biography

U.S. Southern Colonies Project logo
Ann (Lewis) Taylor was a Virginia colonist.

Ann was born March 2, 1733 in Goochland County, Virginia and passed away in September 1811. She was buried in Machpelah Cemetery, Townsville, Vance County, North Carolina.[1]

In 1752, Ann (b 1733) married Edmund Taylor (b 1723).[2] Their children included

  • Elizabeth Taylor, married Josiah Rucks[2]
  • Mary Taylor, married John Brodie[2]
  • Howell Taylor, married Susannah (Susan) Young[2]
  • Edmund Taylor, married (1) Patsy Lewis, (2) Polly Robards[2][3][4][5]
  • John Taylor (born 1756, died 23 April 1837), married Susanna Bullock[2][4]
  • Frances Taylor, married Nathaniel Moore[2]
  • Lewis Taylor, married Jane Byne[2][4]
  • Richard Taylor, married Lucy Byne[2][4][6]

Edmund and Ann moved with their family to Mecklenburg County, Virginia when their son John was 2 years old. In 1777, John moved to Granville County, North Carolina.[4]

Research Notes

A merged profile had death location as Townsville, Granville, North Carolina. It may be that Vance County is the modern location and, in 1811, Townsville was in Granville County.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Ann by comparing test results with other carriers of her mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known mtDNA test-takers in her direct maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Ann:

Lewis-40620 and Lewis-13414 appear to represent the same person because: Clear duplicates with duplicate daughters
Profile on DD Project Report because son Nathaniel Taylor was born after the death of both of his parents.

Nathaniel was born in 1813, but his father died in 1783 (or possibly 1805?) and his mother died in 1811.

I am unable to resolve these issues but have posted my Research Notes on Nathaniel’s profile. If you have any questions ...

See also this DAR record (#A133200) for an Edmund Taylor (1754-aft. 1801), born Virgina/died North Carolina. Not sure how he's related, but he's not her son Edmund, who has his own DAR record (#A205421).

update: they're first cousins - both grandsons of Taylor-679.

update: I added a Location section to husband Edmund's profile - see https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Taylor-7017#Location_Notes

Hanover County was formed from New Kent County, which was formed from York. Hanover County was formed before Goochland existed - it was formed from Henrico. They're on opposite sides of the river.

  • New Kent: 1654
  • Hanover: 1720/21
  • Goochland: 1728
See this page.

Lewis-20239 and Lewis-13414 appear to represent the same person because: Hi! I've proposed a merge for the duplicate profiles for her father. These profiles should be merged also. See Lewis-683 for sources for her (she's listed in both her parents' DAR records - Lewis-683 has links to Charles & Mary's records). I didn't look further to see which county in NC she died in (Vance or Granville). Please note that discrepancy in the text after the merge. Thanks!
