No original source records have been located to confirm birth or marriage records. It appears that some erroneous information may have been published, and perhaps republished/reported, making the “actual facts” obscure. There is a great deal of conflicting information surrounding the Collins and Lewis Families of New Kent/Essex/Spotsylvania – Many Source-to-Source discrepancies; co-mingling, Lack of records; conflicting family stories; number of Collin’s with the same names, etc.
An Effort has been made to update/split individual information from the Contemporary Profiles frequently containing co-mingled data on the various "Joseph's, Richards, etc., (see individual profiles for more detailed information). See Also Collins Family Research Notes
There is controversy over who was Joseph Collins, Jr.'s wife. Was his wife Susannah's maiden name LEWIS, as many genealogies assert or was it ROBINSON, as others state. Should anyone have documented proof of one or the other, please contact me via PM or leave a Comment - Chet Snow - March 10, 2015.
Lewis records indicate daughter "Susan" "Ann" and a "Susanna married,1st, Speaker John Robinson, 2nd, William Griffin (later determined to be a dau of Col. John Chiswell and Elizabeth - connected to the Warner Hall Lewis' Mary, married Warner Lewis, of Warner Hall). There were many Lewis family members in the western part of Spotsylvania. Wealthy Zachary Lewis of nearby “Bel-air” plantation was a burgess (1757-58, 1758-61), a church vestryman for St. George’s parish, and an attorney.
