Robert Henry Alfred Lewis was born in August 1920 in Northumberland County, Pennsylvania. He was the son of Arthur Lewis and Merle Schive. In 1930 the family was living in Shamokin, Northumberland County, Pennsylvania where his father was a coal miner.[1]
Robert registered for the U.S. military draft in 1942 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. At that time he was married and worked at Precision Grinding Wheel Company. He was described as 5 feet 10 inches tall, 177 pounds with a light brown complexion, blue eyes and brown hair.[2] He entered active military service on 10 May 1944, serving in the U.S. Navy as a Fireman First Class. He was honorably discharged on 13 February 1946 at Lido Beach, Long Island, New York.[3], [4], [5]
When he submitted the application for Pennsylvania, WWII Veteran Compensation in April 1950, he was living in Croydon, Bucks County, Pennsylvania. He and Irene had three children between the ages of 2 to 8.[3]
He passed away in January 2000 at age 79 and was buried in Sunset Memorial Park, Feasterville, Bucks County, Pennsylvania (Sec. 1465; Lot Block M; Grave #4).[4], [6][5]
