Biography

Katherine was born enslaved about 1860 in Horry County, South Carolina. Her parents were Smart Lewis (abt.1820-) and Dillon (Vereen) Lewis (1832-bef.1900). She was aged about eleven at the 1870 US Federal Census and living with her family in Little River, Horry County, South Carolina.^[1] She was still living at home in 1880.^[2] She married Frank Keel about 1886 and they were the parents of the following children (use names/dates with caution until more research is done on them):^[3]

She died (age 60) on 10 July 1915 in Dogwood Neck, Horry, South Carolina.^[5][6]
