Sarah Lewis was born on 7 August 1878 at Red Hill Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. She was the daughter of Henry Lewis and Selena Lax.[1]
Name Burnett; often appears as Bernard.
Married Boyd Burnett Treleaven on 17 April 1898 in Brisbane.[2]
Three children were born to Sarah and Boyd, they were named:- Reuben Burnett Treleaven, James Alfred [Jim] Treleaven and Harold Boyd Treleaven
Fourth child Dulcie Marie Flynn was adopted and became known as Dulcie May Treleaven.
During 1906 and 1907 they lived in Gympie; Boyd was a cabman; more than likely working with William Coleborn; his brother-in-law.
After the death of Boyd; Sarah moved to Coopers Plains and took up residence in a shed on the corner of Hammersmith and Cricket Street, Orange Grove Estate, Coopers Plains a suburb of Brisbane. The land and timber on site belonged to Sam Treleaven; and with the help of her nephew Alf Lewis a house was constructed. Unfortunately it was the depressed 1930's and payment for Alf's service was never considered. Sarah had her home where she remained.
Her latter years were enjoyed in the company of August [Gus] Behrendorf whose name was acknowledged in her funeral notice.
Death occurred on 13 July 1951 in Brisbane.[3]
Cremated 16 July 1951 at Mt. Thompson, Brisbane .
PLEASE NOTE FIND a GRAVE HAS A MEM ID 177835894 for Sarah with her photo. To my knowledge she was cremated Mt. Thompson; Sunday Mail funeral notice 15 July 1951; confirms cremation Mt. Thompson. This notice has been added to Find a Grave hoping to confirm her resting place.
One of my fellow researchers viewed Mt. Thomson Memorial Wall many years ago; Sarah to our knowledge is remembered on wall 7 section 6 No 132.
However, Find a Grave has her buried at Goodna Cemetery. That applies to her husband Boyd Burnett Treleaven who is buried in a Woogarro Plot, at Goodna. His grave site could be one of the many; who, I am told; is buried under the present day buildings. However, I doubt Sarah's ashes are at Woogarro.
Mt. Thompson is confirmed by a photo; of her niche; with her name quite clear. Cremation number is shown below in sources
