William was born about 1843 in Warren County, Tennessee. He was the son of Russell Lewis and Delilah Moore.
He was mortally wounded on April 23, 1863 in Tullahoma, Coffee County, Tennessee during the Battle of Mufreesboro during the Civil War. William was laid to rest in Maplewood Cemetery, Tullahoma, Coffee County, Tennessee, United States. [1]
