Alice Lewis was born about 1870 in Carlton, Victoria.
On 1st November 1888, when she was 18, Alice gave birth to a daughter, Alice Maud Lewis at 28 Queensberry Street, Smith Ward, City of Melbourne, County of Bourke, District of Carlton, Colony of Victoria. Alice took her baby with her when she registered the birth with John Glennon, Registrar, on 26th November 1888, in Carlton. Baby Alice had been delivered by Dr. Broyer in the home of Mrs. O'Dwyer. There were no other witnesses to the birth. Alice said she was 18 years old, was born in Carlton, and lived Carlton, though she didn't give an address. [1][2]
Sadly, baby Alice died the following year, aged five months. [3]

I have checked readily available online cemetery sites without finding the baby's burial, probably buried in the Melbourne General Cemetery. There wasn't an inquest, so she did not die of unnatural causes. (Originally I had the child linked to my husband's Alice Lewis (Simkins) family - but the timing was a decade out.)
One thing I can do, is to check out these girls below — bearing in mind that the index shows the registration place, which is not necessarily where the birth occurred.
