Jess Lewis was born in 1902 in Aurora, Lawrence, Missouri to parents Isaac Peter Lewis and Elizabeth "Lizzie" Halbrook.
In 1910, at the age of eight, Jessie lived with his parents in Sarcoxie, Jasper, Missouri.
Jesse lost his mother, who died of blood poisoning fifteen days after his sister's stillborn birth of 26 Jan 1906. The baby was not named but was buried in Fariview Cemetery in Joplin, Jasper County, Missouri (Find-a-Grave memorial# 10415645). Lizzie was buried on 11 Feb 1906 at Maple Park Cemetery, one day after her death. No headstone marks her grave.
His father married Caroline Augusta "Carrie" Jocelyn on 16 Feb 1907 in Aurora, Lawrence, Missouri. Jessie became a brother on 8 APR 1908 when Edith Fern Lewis was born.
Tragedy struck the family on August 5, 1910 when Peter Lewis suffocated in a mining accident in Sarcoxie, Jasper, Missouri. After the burial, Caroline sent Jesse to live with his half brother Leslie Herndon in Kern, California.
No further information about Jesse Lewis has been found to date.
