Anna Margaretha Lichtenberg was born circa October 7, 1868, in Batavia, Dutch East Indies, to Charlotte Finke and William Lichtenberg, a couple from Germany who were immigrating to the United States of America.
[1][2][3]
By 1871, Anna's family had completed their immigration to the United States, settling near or in San Rafael, California. The Lichtenberg family remained in San Rafael for many years, living in relative comfort on Locust Avenue.
[1][2][4][5]
On December 1, 1897, in San Rafael, Anna married [Alfred Wagstaff Du Bois]. This couple does not appear to have had any children. Alfred is presumed to have died in 1900.
[6]
By 1910, Anna lived with her father, her brother Rudolph, and her sister Charlotte and her family on Locust Avenue, in San Rafael. Living nearby were Hannah and Emily DuBois, who may have been relatives of Anna's late husband.
[2]
In 1930, Anna lived with her sister Elsa and her children and granddaughter at the Lichtenberg family home. Brothers William and Rudolph, as well as sisters Charlotte and Marie Ida also lived with them. This extended family also employed 2 servants, Kwan Fat and Zoung Vov, as waiter and cook, respectively.
[4][7]
In 1940, Anna still lived with her siblings and some of their families. Marie Ida was now the head of the household; brother William, sisters Charlotte and Elsa, Elsa's son Harry, and Charlotte's daughter Charlotte and grandson David all lived in the Lichtenberg home on Locust Avenue. Additionally, 3 lodgers (Wallace Broadfoot; Mabel and Daniel Wurstburgh) and 3 servants (Ruth Duckett, maid; Wai Toy, houseboy; Won Suey, cook) were residing with Anna's family.
[5][8]
Anna died circa September 23, 1960, in San Rafael, California. She was buried in Mount Tamalpais Cemetery in San Rafael, where her parents and siblings also were buried.
