Biography

Thomas Liddell, "Merchant Adventurer", Sheriff 1563, Mayor 1572: Will dated 8 May 1577, proved by Margaret his widow on 31 July 1577[1]...(he was said in the Baronetage to marry Barbara, daughter of Richard Strangways)." Thomas Liddell died at Newcastle about 8 May 1577, the day he made his will, and was buried the next day in the cemetery of St. Nicholas Church, Newcastle.[2] [3]

The first mention of Thomas Liddell is his apprenticeship, 18 Feb. 1539/40, to Robert Lamb, mercer; he was admitted 1544/5. Having made his will, 8 May 1577, he was buried the following day at St. Nicholas, Newcastle. His widow, who proved his will, was bur. at the same place, 31 October 1604.[4]

Thomas Liddell, the eldest son, married Barbara, daughter and coheiress of Richard Strangeways, by whom he had four sons and two daughters; 1) Francis ; 2) Thomas; 3) Robert; and 4) Percival, who both died S.P. Alice, the wife of Oswald *Ex Infer. Geo. Liddell, Arm t Stem. Penes. Geo. Liddell, Arm Carr; Barbara died young. Francis, the eldest son married Anne, daughter of William de'segrave; but his line terminated in his son and heir, Bartrum, who married Barbara, daughter of Thomas Cramlington, and died without issue.[5]

His father was Thomas de Liddell who married Margaret, daughter of John de Laburne, by whom he had issue two sons, Thomas and George, who married Eleanor, daughter of John Burn, and had one son, George, who married, daughter of Robert Barker, Esq. and died without issue.[6]

I changed the marriage date. It would have been after his son was born and was in fact the same date for his son Thomas's marriage to Margaret Watson.
