His mother married a Möller in Germany. Her and her new husband left Johann in Germany and came to the states where their name was changed to Miller.
Johann left Germany when he was 17-years-old (1867) and joined his mother at that time. He is found living with her and her family in the 1870 census in Tomah, WI.
Johann married Margaret Bungert in 1874 and they had the following known children.
