Ella (Lightbourn) Birkbeck is part of a Bahamian family.

Biography

Ella Blanche Lightbourn was born in Nassau, Bahamas in 1865 to Paul Samuel Lightbourn and Adeline Saunders Lightbourn.

She married, in 1894, the Reverend Joseph Birkbeck, Wesleyan Methodist minister, at Liskeard, Cornwall, England. The couple had five children: Joseph Lightbourn, Florence, Percy Sumner, Paul William, and Francis Herbert Birkbeck.

Ella Blanche Lightbourn Birkbeck was a World War II civilian casualty killed by enemy action: "Birkbeck, Ella Blanche, age 78; of Barkston, Cornwall Terrace, Woodhall Spa. Daughter of the late Paul and Adelaide [Adeline] Lightbourn, of Nassau, Bahamas..; widow of the Revd. Joseph Birkbeck. Injured 18 August 1943 at Woodhall Spa; died 25 August 1943, at Louth and District Hospital." Her name is included on the Caribbean Roll of Honour, Caribbean Civilian War Dead, World War II.
