Biography

Roger Moore Lightbourn was born 10 October 1870 in Nassau, Bahamas to Paul Lightbourn and Adeline Saunders.

He married Mary Beatrice "Mamie" Moon, daughter of the Reverend Francis Moon and Mary Lockhart Weech Moon, at Trinity Methodist Church, Nassau, Bahamas 14 January 1892. He was a trustee of this Church for many years.

Roger and Mamie Lightbourn had children Percival Moon, Cyril Harcourt, Hugh Vincent, Nelson Egerton, Gerald Roger Winston, and Winifred Lightbourn.

Druggist & self taught optometrist, Roger established Lightbourn's Pharmacy at Bay & George Streets. He built the Lucerne Hotel on Frederick Street, Nassau; it was opened in 1913, and during Prohibition it was known as the bootleggers' headquarters.

Roger Moore Lightbourn died 5 August 1956 in Miami, Dade County, Florida. He is buried in the Western Cemetery, Nassau, Bahamas with his wife Mamie.
