Biography

William Goodrich Lightfoot married about 1802 Mary Hawkins. [1]

From [2] "Goodrich Lightfoot was born in 1770 and taught school in Culpepper Virginia. He appeared in the tax books in Adair County, Kentucky, in the early 1800's. A William Lightfoot was noted on a marriage bond for between Guthrie LIghtfoot and Catherine Colvin in Falmouth, Kentucky in February 1801. He made his home near Lawrenceburg, Kentucky and was the father of:

He served in the war of 1812 as a Private in Capt. Jacob Elliston's Company, commanded by Col. Richard M. Johnson, mounted regiment, Kentucky Volunteers. Goodrich Lightfoot was married to Mary Popham, but, it is questionable whether she was the mother of any of his children.

Anderson County Property records [3] show an agreement between Sam Petty and Goodrich Lightfoot in 1827 where Goodrich borrows property. The tax records of Anderson County [4] listed Goodrich in 1828 with 160 acres on Hammond Greek, one white male over 21, two blacks; in 1930, one white, two blacks. Transfer Goodrich Lightfoot to Sam B. Petty of a slave named Anne together with her infant child named Mary, recorded on instrument dated February 5, 1831.

William Goodrich, his wife Mary, and some of his children moved to Illinois and settled in the Southeast corner of Edgar County in 1831. He died there in 1847 at the age of 77.

Edgar County Illinois 1830 Census lists a Wm Lightfoot, age 15-20. (Might be his son)

this must be a grandson (or gr-grand) of Goodrich & Mary (Chew) Lightfoot. Born 1774 is way too late to be their son.
