James was born in 1884. He was the son of William Lightfoot and Susan Strait. He passed away in 1899.
James Monroe Lightfoot was accidently shot by a hunting companion named Alvis Mansfield on Christmas day 1899. Quoting from an article in the newspaper of that time, "In some way Mansfield went to unbreach his gun when it discharged. The contents entered the groin and bowels of Monroe, and it is said that death is certain. Young Lightfoot was perfectly conscious today and says the affair was purely an accident and no blame is attached to Mansfield."
