Thomas Lightle (also Lytle, Little), was born about 1770 in Ireland, the son of Unknown Lytle and Martha Unknown. Martha came with her children to the United States about 1800. Some of the children were grown.[1]

Thomas married and had nine children:[2][3]:

  1. Rose Ann Little or Lytle/Lightle, born about 1785, died before 1852; married Unknown Criswell
  2. Hugh Little or Lytle/Lightle, born about 1788, died before 1852
  3. Isabel Little or Lytle/Lightle, born ?, died after 1852
  4. Mary Little or Lytle/Lightle, born ?, died after 1852
  5. John Lytle or Lightle/Little, born 1790, died 1823; married Abigail Cozad
  6. Andrew Little or Lytle/Lightle, died after 1852
  7. James Little or Lytle/Lightle, died before 1852
  8. Margaret Little or Lytle/Lightle, died before 1852; married William Dawson
  9. Thomas Little, died before 1852

Thomas Little appeared on the 1850 census in Ross County, Ohio in the household of Sam'l Little. The household was composed as follows: Sam'l Little, age 52, male, farmer, real estate valuation $1144, born in Pennsylvania; Mary Little, age 45, female, born in Ohio; Thos. Little, age 80, male, farmer, born in Ireland; Margaret Little, age 35, female, born in Ireland; Humphrey J. Little, age 6, male, born in Ohio; Julia A. Little, age 2, female, born in Ohio.[4]

Research Notes

Thomas Little/Lytle/Lightle apparently married a McCormick woman, because he deeded his right and title to land inherited by her children from Thomas McCormick, as his cousins and only heirs, which referred to the deed when McCormick purchased the land.[5] Of course a cousin to McCormick could be from an aunt with another married name who had an only daughter, and not from an uncle's daughter. Or, his connection might be through his mother, who had a different maiden name. He apparently had only one uncle or aunt who had children, as these nine cousins were his only heirs.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Thomas by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Thomas:
