Biography

Charles (Charlie) Lightsey was a resident of Jasper and later Clarke County, MS. He was the owner of a general store in Pachuta, MS, until roughly the start of the Second World War. He then took up farming and cattle raising full time. He was a devoted member of the Pachuta Baptist Church. He plowed with a mule named "Burt" who was undoubtedly his best friend and he kept him around well after his days of plowing were over. The two would walk out into the pasture together every morning to check on the cows. He was a man of few words, but he read the big Bible every single day sitting at the dining room table. In the 1930 census Charlie was in Pachuta, Clarke, Mississippi, United States.^[1]
