Patriotic Service Description: Served in the 2d, 3d, 5th, 7th and 11th VA Regiments rising from the rank of Sergeant to Lieutenant

According to his American Revolution pension record (SC - W. 9132), Blackmon Ligon enlisted in Halifax County, Virginia on 12 February 1776 and served as a private in the Companies of: Captain Nathaniel Cocke, Captain William Mosely, Colonel William Dangerfield & Colonel Alexander McClanahan's 7th Virginia Regt. He was in the Battles of Brandywine and Germantown & at the "affair at Coote's Bridge". He was discharged on 12 February 1780.

In February of 1781, he volunteered and was at the Battle of Guilford where he received a musket ball wound in the thigh.

He was granted a pension on his application executed 14 November 1818, while living in Greenville District, SC, aged 61 years. He died May 1831. His wife Elizabeth, was granted his pension in 1841 until she died 15 October 1842.

The only family that were named in the pension application (dated 18 April 1821) were: his wife, Elizabeth Ligon, aged 64 yrs {b. 28 Apr 1753 d. 15 Oct 1842, no maiden name given}; Nancy T. Moon, age 37 yrs {wife of John Moon}; John Townes Ligon aged 29 yrs; Elizabeth Ligon aged 25 yrs, Blackmon Ligon aged 22 yrs and two granchildren, James Roseman age 9 yrs & Joseph Ligon age 4 yrs.

Blackman Ligon married on June 17, 1782, in Halifax County, Virginia, Elizabeth Townes (born, Amelia County Virginia, April 28, 1763; died October, 1842), daughter of William Townes, youngest son of James townes and his wife, first Townes to come from England to America, where they settled in Henrico County, Virginia. Elizabeth died in Greenville, South Carolina in October, 1842.
