He was born about 1762 in Virginia.
During the American Revolutionary War he served more than six months in the military, but never saw action.
John Howson Ligon married on 23 Dec 1790 in Prince Edward County, Virginia to Elizabeth Guill [1] and they had about eight children.
In February 1798 he bought 100 acres of land in Halifax County, Virginia from William Ligon.
In March 1801 John Ligon bought 90 acres of land on Vaughans Creek in Prince Edward County, Virginia. He and his wife sold this land to Josiah Gill in September 1805.
They resided in Halifax County, Virginia, until about 1810 when they moved their family to Smith County, Tennessee. Later they moved into neighboring Wilson County, Tennessee.
He passed away about 1845.
