Biography

US Black Heritage Project
George Ligon is a part of US Black heritage.

George was a slave who was impressed by agents of the Confederate government to perform work on brook fortifications at an unstated location [probably near Richmond, Virginia], from November 1862 to January 1863. During that time, George worked 48 days, for which his owner, William Daniel Ligon, received $16 per month. George appears on Payroll 123 for slaves impressed from Nelson County, Virginia.

The year of George's birth is estimated based on the thought that he was likely at least 15 years of age at the time of his impressment.
