Biography

Antonino Ligotino is a Corleone native resident, the son of Angelo Ligotino and Maria di Leo. Based on his age in the 1766 stato delle anime, Antonino is born around 1762.

The family appears between the hospital and the vanella di Paolo Palazzo in the 1766 census: Angelo Ligotino, 59 (b. 1707), his wife Maria, 51 (b. 1715), and children Rev. Sac. Don Gaspare, 29 (b. 31 Oct 1738), Giuseppa, 19 (b. 1747), Santa, 12 (b. 1754), Gaetano, 10 (b. 1756), and Antonino, 4 (b. 1762).

Antonino marries Grazia Badolato on 8 February 1790. His parents have died by this time.

Antonino and Grazia have at least five children: Angelo (1790), Maria Giuseppa (1793), Carmelo (1797), Paolo (1798), and Elisabetta (1801).

Angelo is born 28 November 1790 and baptized the next day, named after his paternal grandfather. His godparents are Don Rosario d'Anna, husband of Donna Emmanuela, and Donna Elisabetta Marullo, widow of Don Giuseppe.[1]
Maria Giuseppa is born 19 March 1793 and baptized the next day by Don Gaspare Ligutino, Antonino's brother. Her godparents are Don Simone Falconeri and Donna Concetta Badulato, who is unmarried.

In 1795, Rev. Sac ‘’Don’’ Gaspare Ligotino, 57, lives with his brother ‘’Don’’ Antonino Ligotino, 31, his wife ‘’Donna’’ Grazia, 31, children Angelo, 5, and Maria, 2, and Ninfa Ligotino, 47 (b. 1748), on the strada di Ligotino. This street appears several streets after after the pianoSan Domenico in the census. Ninfa is the widow of another Antonino Ligotino, of unknown relation.

Carmelo is born and baptized 17 June 1797, named after his maternal grandfather. His godparents are Don Giuseppe Gennusa and Donna Francesca Paola Badulato. His parents are styled don(na) in this record, and in his sister's in 1801.

Carmelo dies on 26 February 1798 at eight months of age.

Pietro Paolo is born 12 December 1798 and baptized the next day. His godparents are Don Paolo Garlano and Donna Caterina Pappalardo, wife of U.J.Dr. Don Salvatore.[2]
Elisabetta is born and baptized 4 November 1801. Her godparents are Don Pietro and Donna Francesca Badulato, brother and sister.

Angelo dies at age 12 (b. 1791) on 23 August 1803. He receives extreme unction from his uncle, the Rev. Don Gaspare Ligotino.

Death of Don Antonino

Don Antonino dies, reportedly at age 38 on 15 March 1804. Based on his reported age in 1766, Antonino is born around 1762, and is about 42 years old at death).

When their children marry, the records grant Antonino, Grazia, and their children the honorifics of "don/donna."

Donna Giuseppa marries Don Gaetano Liguori on 11 August 1816. Antonino has died by this time.
Don Paolo marries Donna Anna Orlando on 9 February 1823. Grazia is still living.

Don Paolo dies, reportedly at age 46 (he is 38) on 15 July 1837, at the height of the first recorded cholera outbreak in western Europe. His wife survives him.

Giuseppa dies at age 64 on 9 July 1857. She is survived by her husband.

Elizabetta dies as a converted nun in the monastery of Santa Maria Annunziato. Sister Maria Crocifissa dies on 3 August 1859. She is 57.
