Biography

William was born in Howard County in 1814, at that time the area that is Howard County was part of Anne Arundel County. Since the siblings who were born in Maryland were born in Marriottsville he was most likely born there. He was a farmer until after the Civil War when he moved to Baltimore City. The 1870 census shows him living in the city with his wife and married daughter and lists his occupation as labourer. His son, Francis (Frank) lived next door.

They and Frank's son Robert owned at least a dozen row houses between them. Frank was a fireman for the B&O and Robert was an electrician and William had money from selling his small farm so they were better off than many people in Pigtown.

(The neighborhood still exists as Pigtown despite the City's attempts to rename it, the last name proposed that I know of was Mount Clare Village after the former B&O Mt Clare Shops and Charles Barrister Carroll's nearby mansion in Carroll Park. (y branch of the Lilly family all lived in that area in houses that William, Frank and Robert bought until post WW2 (late '40s, early '50s). Robert's daughter, my grandfather's sister, Myrtle remained there with her husband, Julius, till about 1985 when her son moved her to his house a decade or so after Julius died.)

Children

There are possibly more children, I am still researching that.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with William by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with William:
