Chanute Daily Tribune, 19 Jan 1910, Wed, Page 4 M. W. Lincoln died at his home, 17 South Evergreen avenue at 10:45 o'clock this morning. The funeral services will be held at 10 o'clock Friday morning in the Catholic church. They will be conducted by Rev. Father P. J. Nagle, pastor of the Catholic church. Interment will be made in Elmwood cemetery. The modern Woodmen will have charge of the services there.
Mr. Lincoln had been an invalid for three years. He died of necrosis of the spine, which caused paralysis of the lower limbs. This paralysis crept gradually upward until it resulted in death.
The attack was caused by an injury which he received while working as a carpenter in building the new Catholic church here. He was carrying a board and the wind caught it so that it almost wrested it from his grasp. The strain was so great that his back was sprained and his spine affected.
Although he suffered much and realized that he had little chance for recovery, he was very brave and uncomplaining. He attended to his duties as clerk of the Modern Woodman camp until a few days before his death, going to and fro between his office and his home in a wheeled chair and reporting for duty many days when a less courageous man would have given up and taken to his bed.
Mr. Lincoln was 48 years old. He was born December 13, 1861, in Milltown, Southern Indiana. He organized the Petrolia camp of Modern Woodmen and was working as deputy for the order at Ottawa when he was taken sick. Afterwards he was elected clerk of the camp here and held that position for two terms of one year each. A little more than a month ago he was re-elected for his third term.
He was also a member of the Triple Tie Benefit Association, and a social member of the Royal Neighbors, the Modern Woodmen auxiliary.
He leaves a widow and two children--Agnes, 18 years old, and John, 16 years old.
His father lives in Milltown, Ind. He is 68 years old.
Mr. Lincoln also leaves three brothers and six sisters. The brothers are Thomas Lincoln of Madison, Kas; Sherman Lincoln of Nickerson and Joseph Lincoln of Milltown, Ind. The sisters are Mrs. Mattie Kingsbury of Mount Carmel, Ill., Mrs Malissa Christian of Little Rock, Ark.; Mrs Ellen Sanders and Miss Eva Lincoln of Poplar Bluff, Mo., Mrs Emma Bush of Lawrence, Kas., and Mrs Ella Berkman of Milltown, Ind.
Thomas Lincoln of Madison was with his brother when he died, also Mrs Mitchell of Newton, the sister of Mrs. Lincoln. Mr Mitchell accompanied the latter here but returned home yesterday.
