Biography

Hiram was born about 1848, the son of Robert Lincoln and Christiana Williams.

Hiram seems to have changed his name several times during his life.

On the 1850 census, he is listed as "Thomas Lincoln, age 4" -- father, Robert Lincoln, b. Indiana

On the 1860 census, he is listed as "Thomas Hutton, age 12" -- father, Robert Lincoln, b. Indiana

In 1869 -- A notice in the Hermanner Wochenblatt newspaper, in Hermann Missouri dated 27 Feb 1869 states "to whom it may concern" regarding Hiram Thomas Hutton changing his name legally to Hiram Thomas Lincoln. This was approved by his father, Robert J. Lincoln, and the Court. He may have changed his name to Hutton, most likely prior to and during the Civil War for unknown reasons, possibly due to the fact that the family believed they were close relatives of Abraham Lincoln -- Missouri during the Civil War was a hotbed of unrest, with many conflicts between Union and Confederate supporters, and the Lincoln surname possibly would have made him a target for Confederate sympathizers.

On the 1870 census, he is once again listed as "Thomas Lincoln," -- father Robert Lincoln, b. Tennessee

Hiram married Eliza Ann Maupin in Missouri.

On the 1880 census, he is again listed as Hiram T. Lincoln[1] -- father b. England -- this is incorrect. His father was the son of Davis Lincoln & Abigail Campbell. His mother was Christiana Williams. His parents were living in Spencer County, Indiana in 1840. (See link to "The LIncoln Kinsman" newsletter regarding the descendants of Abraham Lincoln, in sources below.)

On the 1900 Oklahoma census (see source below) he is listed as "John Lincoln," however, his wife and children are also living there with him, so this is definitely Hiram.

He passed away in 1904.

In 1909 Hiram's widow Eliza Ann is living in Wichita, Kansas, listed in the Wichita City Directory. So it appears Hiram died sometime between the 1900 Oklahoma census and 1909 where Eliza is widowed.

Lincoln-4210 and Lincoln-4174 appear to represent the same person because: Please merge these two Hiram Lincoln's -- I inadvertently added him to my tree when he was already on WikiTree. His parents were Robert J. Lincoln & Christiana Williams, whom I have attached to him on my profile for him, Lincoln-4210

Thanks!
