Biography

In 1880, Homer lived with his brother Nathan and his wife in Hall, Dubois, Indiana. All members of the household were born in Indiana. The household included Nathan A. Lindley, 22, a farmer (parents b. Indiana); his wife, Ida F., 19 (father b. IN; mother b. PA); and (Nathan’s brother) Homer Lindley, 19, a farmer, and a student. [1]

Bessie Lena Heiney and Homer Lindley were married on 28 December 1899 in Carroll County, Missouri. [2]

In 1900, Homer and Bessie lived with her parents on their farm in Egypt Township, Carroll, Missouri. The household included Solomon R. Heiney, 56, born in Indiana in Oct. 1844 (father b. PA; mother b. OH), a farmer, who owned their property with a mortgage; his wife of 25 years, Adeline, 49, b. MO in 1851 (father b. TN; mother b. KY), who had had two children, both of whom were living; James King, 40, a farm laborer; Homer Lindley, 36, b. IN, Dec. 1864, occupation: T—- Ditches; and his wife of less than one year, Bessie (daughter of head of household), 21, b. MO, Aug 1879. All household members could read and write. [3]

In 1910, the Lindleys lived on their rented farm in Galesburg, Kingman, Kansas. The family included Homer Lindley, 49, born in Indiana, a farmer; his wife of ten years, Bessie, 37, born in Missouri, who had had two children; their children, both born in Missouri, Earl, 8, in school; and Addie, 4. In 1920, the Lindley family lived on their farm in Crooked River Township, Ray County, Missouri. They owned the farm without a mortgage. The household included Homer Lindley, 59, a farmer; his wife, Bessie L., 42; their children, Earl H., 18; Addie A., 14, in school; and Heiney N., 9, in school. [5]

In 1930, the Lindley family lived in Egypt, Carroll, Missouri. They owned their farm, and had a radio. All could read a write. The household included Homer Lindley, 69, a farmer, who married at age 38; his wife, Bessie L., 51, married at age 20; and their son, Heiney N., 19, born in Kansas, a farmer. [6]

In 1940, they lived in Hardin, Crooked River Township, Ray, Missouri. They owned their house, valued at $1200. They had lived in the same house for at least five years. Homer Lindley, 79, had completed the sixth grade. He had an outside income. His wife, Bessie, 61, had completed the eighth grade. [7]

Their son, Heiney Lindley, born 13 December 1910, died, aged 61, in Missouri in August 1971. [8]

Homer Lindley, 1860-1943, is buried with his wife, their son, Heiney, and other family at Fairhaven Cemetery, Norborne, Missouri.[9]
