Biography

Colin was born in 1925 in Adelaide, South Australia, the third child of Andrew Ernest and Mabel Kathleen Lindsay. Colin attended Cowandilla Primary School and Adelaide High School. He left school at 16 to begin his electrical apprenticeship with the Municipal Tramways Trust (M.T.T.) in February 1941 In July 1944, he sought permission to enlist in the Royal Australian Navy, where her saw time in active service primarily on troop carriers between Australia and The Phillipines. He was employed as a Wireman in the Navy, which was a condition of his release from his apprenticeship. Much of his time was spent on The Kanimbla. After discharge, he returned to his apprenticeship with the M.T.T. In June 1947, he became an electrical fitter with the M.T.T. He was a Switchboard attendant in the Tramway's Converter Station, and then a Shift Electrician in the Tramway's Power Station at Port Adelaide for 4 years. In 1954, he became the Employment Officer and then the Industrial Officer of the organization he had been in all his working life. He married Joyce Maxine McKinnon in 1947 and they raised 5 children in Henley South. They bought a rural property in the Adelaide Hills at Harrogate and spent the latter part of their lives as farmers. He passed away in 2004 and is buried with Joyce in the Harrogate Cemetery.[1]
