MARION LINDSAY MCLEAN CAMP PERRY

Marion Lindsay McLean Camp Perry was born in Wanlockhead, Dumfries, Scotland on 22 Jun 1829. She married John William McLean 15 Dec 1845 in Patna, Ayshire, Scotland. They became the parents of eight children, all born in Ayshire, Scotland. Her husband, John William McLean passed away on 3 0 Sep 1863 in Scotland. Marion married a second time to Williams Washington Camp in Salt Lake City, Utah in 1865. They had two children; a boy and a girl. Her second husband passed away on 21 Nov 1875 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Marion later married Joseph Perry in Salt Lake City, Utah. Marion's first husband and their oldest son were killed in a coal mine explosion on 29 Oct 1863 in Patna, Ayshire, Scotland. Marion and John, along with their children, had joined the Mormon Church in Scotland. After becoming a widow, Marion and her seven children emigrated to America. They sailed on the ship "General McClellan" on 21 May 1864. Marion' s parents had emigrated to America previously. While crossing the Atlantic Ocean, her second son James died and was buried at sea. This was a very sad occasion for her. They made their way to Wyoming, Nebraska where they joined the William S. Warren Wagon Company. They arrived in the Sal t Lake Valley on 4 Oct 1864. Being without any financial support, Marion and her children went to live with her parents in Heber Valley, Utah. Sh e found employment in the home of Williams Washington Camp . Marion would work several weeks doing housework and laundry by hand to get money to support her family. She would then walk back to Heber from Salt Lake City to assist he r parents in caring for her children. Williams was twenty-nine years older than Marion when the y had a civil marriage in 1865. Marion was his seventh an d last wife. He built Marion and their two children an ado be house on Camp Lane which is now Redwood road. William s died of pneumonia in 1875. Later, Marion married Joseph Perry in Salt Lake City. Mari on was stricken with appendicitis and passed away on the operating table of ruptured appendix on 24 May 1878. Marion left two children, Williams age eleven and Margaret age nine. Joseph Perry and his daughter took care of these two orphaned children until they went to live with their half-brother Richard C. Camp and his wife Jane Glen in Wa llsburg, Wasatch County, Utah. This courageous lady, Marion Lindsay McLean Camp Perry, endured many hardships and sorrows in her life, but remained faithful to the end. She was truly a pioneer to be remember ed by her large posterity.

(Note - Several discrepancies occur between this published record and what I believe actually happened, (1) She married John McLean on 5 Dec 1846. (2) Marion divorced W. W . Camp in 1870, five years before he died. (3) There is a discrepancy in the date John McLean died, either 30 Sep 1863 or 29 Oct 1863? 6 2 Note: (Research):(IGI records show that Marion married Joseph Carter PERRY in 1862 in Ayr, Scotland. This is in error, as t hey were more than likely married somewhere between 1875 an d 1876 in Salt Lake City. It stands to reason that sh e married Perry after she divorced Camp, (1870) as her obituary when she died in 1878 in Brighton, Utah, shows her name as Marion Lindsey PERRY!) (Marion's oldest daughter, Elizabeth Geddes McLEAN married Alonzo Turrell ATWOOD and they named one of their children Joseph Perry ATWOOD.) (Joseph Carter PERRY remarried in 1880 to Ellen Wright PALMER.) Note: (Medical):Obituary-Marion Lindsey Perry In Brighton Ward, May 24th 1878, Marion Lindsey Perry, Deceased. Was born Jan 2nd 1825 at Wanlockhead, Sanqhuar, Dumfrieshire, Scotland. She was baptized in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in 1847, and emigrated to Utah in 1864. She died as she had lived, a true and faithful Latter Day saint. Funeral Services were conducted at the residence of the departed and the remains were followed to the grave by a large entourage.

Marion was born in 1825. She was the daughter of James Lindsay and Maria Bennett. She passed away in 1878.
