Biography

David (Lindsay) Lindsay Tenth Earl of Crawford is a member of Clan Lindsay.

David was born in 1527 son to the "Wicked Master of Crawford" who forfeited his right to inherit the earldom of Crawford. The earldom was granted to David Lindsay of Edzell who adopted the young son of Wicked Master.

In Apr 1546 a preliminary contract of marriage was agreed between the earl and Master (aged 19) on one part and Cardinal David Beaton and his daughter Margaret on the other for the marriage of David and Margaret.

On 14 Apr 1551 Instrument was taken at instance of David Master of Crawdord upon a contract at Edzell between David earl of Crawford and David Master of Crawford at his age of 24 years or thereby approved a contract made at St Andrews 9 April 1546 between Cardinal David and Margaret Betoun his daughter on the one part and said David earl of Crawford and David Master of Crawford on the other a Bond of 1546 and (3) a Bond of Obligation dated at Brechin 9 Aug 1546 made by the sd, Master with consent of his curators ; Master David Pitkerne archbishop of Brechin, James Rynd of Kerse and James Fenton of Ogill to sd David earl of Crawford. This contract confirmed that he shall within a year of the term of Whitsunday 1552 redeem the lands of the Mains and toun of Meigle wadset to the laird of Ruthven under reversion of sum of 2600 merks.[1]

June 1566 dined with Mary Queen of Scots and other Earls. April 1567 signed the Ainslie Tavern Bond. Requesting Mary Queen of Scots to marry a Scot, not a foreigner, namely, James Hepburn, Earl of Bothwell.
