Family Legend

Became interested in genealogy by hearing family stories of how my Boman (Bowman) ancestors had a strong connection to Daniel Boone. Family legend suggested that Daniel Boone often visited a family member's cabin. Today, with the use of the Internet and the Old Jones Naming Pattern, a family connection was made - Mary Matilda (Wilcoxen) Bowman. Mary Matilda was the great granddaughter of Daniel's sister, Sarah Cassandra (Boone) Wilcoxson.

John H. & Mary Matilda

Daniel Boone, therefore, is a 7th great uncle to today's Boman descendants. Sarah and Daniel lived near one another in Fort Boonesborough. Daniel most definitely would have visited Sarah's cabin several times.

To see more family connections, visit David's parents profile pages. David's parents raised three children and David raised one child himself.

Heritage

Combining DNA with genealogy research my ancestry is:

40 % Scottish – Grandfather James Hailstone b. 1877 was 100 % Scottish;

35 % English; 8th Great Grandfather John Biggs I b. 1659 (British officer who helped develop New York City) was 100% British;

The remaining percent is a mixture of Irish, Norwegian, Welsh, Dutch, German, and American Shawnee Indian.

Lindsey Scottish Ancestors

David Lindsey and the male descendants of the 1800 Rutherford County, North Carolina Lindseys have almost all of the same Y-chromosome markers, and their Y-DNA path can be traced back 13,000 years ago to the steppes of Ukraine and Russia. The Lindseys were part the Bell Beaker people who traveled west through Central Europe reaching England around 2,300 B.C. The Bell Beaker people brought new technologies along with diseases that is believed to have wiped out 90 % of the indigenous English population. Five hundred years later they had spread up into Scotland. DNA analysis suggests that their eyes, skin, and hair were prominently lighter.

The first known documented Lindsey that descended from the Bell Beaker people was James Lindsey born around 1620 in Scotland and immigrated to America in 1647. James first arrived in Maryland then settled permanently in Essex County, Virginia. His descendants expanded downward to North Carolina then into Kentucky, Tennessee, Indiana, Illinois, Missouri, and Arkansas, and beyond.

A notable Lindsey that was a direct descendant of James Lindsey was Dr. Franklin Jefferson Lindsey III born 1942 in Illinois. Dr. Lindsey was a NASA electrical engineer and inventor. He went on to develop the antenna that enabled the Apollo moon astronauts to communicate back to Earth. Dr. Lindsey was buried in 2005 at Mount Pleasant Jerusalem Cemetery, Pomona, Jackson County, Illinois.

The Rutherford County, North Carolina Lindsey haplogroup is R-FT118816.

I have made some changes to your Samuel T King who married in Union County, Illinois. I do not believe he is the son of Samuel king and susan Montgomery and put my sources of why I do not think he related to them as a child.

Hi David

It's time for our annual Scotland Project check-in!

This year we are hoping to learn what our membership would like to accomplish over the next 12 months. In case you aren't aware, this year is WikiTree's ""Year of Connections"" and the Project's leadership would like to contribute to this in as many ways as possible.

We would appreciate it if you would share your thoughts and ideas with us on how we can accomplish this goal. We would also appreciate it if you would provide some feedback on our existing goals, including:

  • If you have not yet signed up to help on one of the project's teams, which team(s) would you be interested in joining?
  • How often should we provide a Project Newsletter?
  • Have you participated in the Tartan Trail? If not, is this something you'd be interested in doing?
  • Do you have a question(s) that we could add to a Frequently Asked Questions page?
  • Any suggestions or ideas you have on ways to improve the Scotland Project in general

We continue to communicate with our Project members via Google Group (official) and Discord (unofficial), as well as G2G. You may also reach out to any of the Project leaders via WikiTree's internal messaging system at any time.

Thank you for all you do to help the Scotland Project become a knowledge hub for Scottish genealogical research! We wish you all the best in 2022!

Sincerely, Amy Gilpin on behalf of the Scotland Project Leaders

Hello

It’s time for a Project check-in!

Scotland Project Leaders check in with you at least once a year to see how you are doing. With the changes happening around the world, we understand that life is hectic right now.

What are you planning to work on for the Scotland Project this year? Are you happy with the team(s) you part of, or would you like to make some changes?

This time round, we’re also looking for feedback on the use of Google Group and Discord. Do you use one or both of these? If you don’t use either of them, what is the best way to ensure you receive Project communications? If you would like to join us on Google Group or Discord, let us know in your response.

Hello David!

I think we are a Martin DNA match. I've been looking to connect our ancestor Absalom Decatur Martin with his long lost family... I suspected they came from Virginia as I have found several other DNA Martin matches who trace to Virginia, but lost the branch from which they came. I made an accident on my tree that led me to a Captain Thomas Martin, father of Pleasant Martin, whom I've found in countless searches for my own Absalom and alleged father named Samuel Martin. My Absalom was born circa 1772 in Abbeville, SC. The only possible geographic Martins in that area I can find would be Charles Caffrey Martin, who would have been his father. Looking at descendants of these line and the many many DNA matches on GED, I believe this is the father of my Absalom. You are one of the shared GED matches. I wonder if that is your line up the tree. I am not very good at Wikitree and use mostly Ancestry. My GED kit# AL5646119 and dad's # XU7919291 --since you match both my dad and me, either you are less than 10 generations back, from the same line, or we just have a strong enough Martin DNA pattern that it carries through. I'd love the opportunity to exchange thoughts and information. My email is [email address removed] Yours sincerely, Albert Fox

My family are the Bledsoe The long hunters, they had forts in Tennessee, but hunted and fought with Danial Boone. But we may share common DNA if we do. We both have a connection to Richard the III

https://aprilsworld.com/FORUM/index.php?pages/treewidget/ I do not think we have a Direct relationship although they are married into some of the same family's.

  • update we are directly related through a Melton line. and does show your Boone connection here

https://www.wikitree.com/index.php?title=Special:Relationship&action=calculate&person1_name=Lindsey-2643&person2_name=York-1245&gen=30

holy cow I thinks you are matching one of my martin lines!

https://www.wikitree.com/index.php?title=Special:Relationship&action=calculate&person1_name=Lindsey-2643&person2_name=York-1245&gen=30

check that line out to Richard! wow I have found something here.

of course it is Frank Martins line. and his David And I do Match his DNA.

I need your DNA on Gedmatch David, You can just make an account and transfer your raw data to them kinda like wikitree, then I can use their tools to break down your segments. I think we both match Frank Martins line to the Martins of athelhampton here. I have documented it once before already.

According to this site you are related to William Wallace that's pretty sweet.
