Biography

James Ling was born in 1815 in Shade Township, Somerset, Pennsylvania. He was a son of Christian Ling and Catherine Menges.[1][2]

He married Rachel Miller on 14 February 1839 in Somerset county.[3] James Ling and his family moved from Somerset County to near Oregon, Illinois, about 1866. They had four sons and two daughters. The eldest son was killed in the Civil War. One son called "Christ" was probably named for his grandfather.[4]

He died on 23 April 1868 in Taylor Township, Ogle, Illinois. He is buried in the Lighthouse Cemetery, Daysville, Ogle, Illinois[5]
