William Benton Linger was born on May 15, 1840 in Lewis, Virginia, United States, son of Joseph Linger (1798–1870) and Martha Ann Jane Hinzman (1801–1884).
William died on February 11, 1921 in Parkersburg, Wood, West Virginia, United States, aged 80.[1] He was buried in Pleasant Valley Cemetery, Dallison, West Virginia.
In 1850, William (10) was in the household of Joseph Linger in Lewis, Virginia. [2]
William (23) married Josephine Alice Porter (17) (born on January 25, 1846 in Virginia) in 1864 in Upshur, West Virginia.[3] Their known son was Earl Conway Linger (May 21 1881 – April 30 1957).
