Biography

Bernard was born in 1898. He was the son of Mathias Link and Elizabeth Schoppet. He passed away in 1915.

b Poplar,

1901 census at 64 Macauley Rd., East Ham: Mathias Link[Head, 25, journeyman baker, b Germany, German subject]; Elizabeth Link[wife, 25, German subject]; Bernard Link[son, 2, b Poplar]; William Link[son, 1, b Poplar].

1911 census at 15 Maryland St., Stratford: Edward Mathias Link[Head, 35, journeyman baker, b Weinsheim, resident, German]; Elizabeth Link[wife, 35, resident, German]; Bernard Link[son, 12, b Poplar]; William Link[son, 11, b Poplar]; Dolly Link[dau., 8, b West ham]; Mabel Link[dau., 4, b West Ham];Cyril Link[son, 2, b West ham]; Ivy Link[dau., 3 mths., b West ham]. In 1911, had had 8 children, 2 had died.

Bernard died on 31.12.1914 in St. George Infirmary(workhouse Infirmary) in Raine Street, Wapping at 16 yrs. old.. Death registerd 1.1.1915 and death informed by resident medical officer (cause of death, acute rheumatism and Endocarditis - sounds like rheumatic fever). Death cert gives father as Mathius Link, baker of 4 Morris St.(this very close to hospital, just off Cable Street - Peter Frederick Speh[b 1871, Notting Hill, master baker] and wife Caroline and children were at 4 Morris St. in 1911.). Brother Edward James born in July 1913 at 4 Morris St. Not clear whether parents were around at death of Bernard or had gone back to Germany.
